Poverty alleviation and sustainable livelihoods program.

Through this program we endeavour to empower poor households to become self sustaining to reduce on the dependency syndrome. We achieve this by implementing the projects below.

Food security and agricultural projects.

Hunger and malnutrition is one of the biggest challenges faced by the rural poor households. And in Uganda over 80% of the people derive their livelihoods farming and agriculture.

Therefore, ACCOD supports rural farmers’ groups, women groups, elderly, youths to effectively and sustainably implement farming and agriculture projects.

Purpose.

The purpose of the program is to equitably and sustainably improve household wellbeing of both female and male farmers.

Community training on sustainable modern farming

One of ACCOD’s main projects is to empower poor families to have sufficient food, have increased harvest with an aim of reducing the rate of hunger and malnutrition. This is achieved by;

  • Training groups in modern/improved and sustainable farming practices,
  • Provision of high yielding, quick maturing and pest resistant crops.
  • Support groups with good animal breeds.
  • Provision of garden tools and other implements like hoes, garden rakes, spray pumps, spades, watering cans…….
  • Provision of pesticides.
  • Market oriented farming/agriculture.
  • Value addition on the harvested crops for higher incomes
Sustainable income generating projects.

ACCOD supports poor households with income generating projects focused at improving their economic status.

Retail shop

This is done through training beneficiaries in proper management of income projects. At household and group level, beneficiaries are supported start up grants to undertake a project of their choice.
Projects supported include;

  • Retail shops.
  • Restaurants.
  • Poultry and animal rearing.
  • Produce buying and selling

And many other income generating ventures that can increase income among the poor people.
