Alpha Childcare and Community Development Organization (ACCOD) is a non government based in Uganda.
ACCOD was established in 2001 with the aim of upholding the sanctity of human life by meeting the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of children, women, youths and generally people facing welfare problems.
At the time when we started, the scourge of HIV/AIDS, wars etc… were the biggest cause of suffering among children. Many of them lost one or both parents and were left under the care of grandparents, widows, family relatives and well wishers in the community.
ACCOD started as a Community Based Organization (CBO) by working in 4 villages in Bukanga Sub County Luuka district, by supporting 50 orphaned and vulnerable children with scholastic materials and uniforms to enable them go back to school.
We latter realised that the children and households we were supporting are faced with many problems not just education. And these included poverty, poor health, lack of food, lack of access to clean and safe water, poor quality of education in the schools, lack of access to medical care by people living with HIV/AIDS.
In 2002 ACCOD was registered as Non Government Organization through the Ministry of Internal Affairs to be able to scale up our operations from one district. Our registration number is S5914/4656.
